How the 1930s Shaped Today's Politics
The rise of Fascism in Europe in the 1930s drew the attention of American Industrialists who wanted the United States to follow a similar path. Organizations that agreed include the American Legion, the American Liberty League, the Black Legion (KKK), the Christian Nationalist Crusade, the American Nationalist Confederation, the National Gentile League, and many more. Individual proponents of Fascism included Henry Ford and Charles Lindbergh.
A plot to overthrow the U.S. government by rallying the Bonus Army was thwarted by U.S. Marine Corps major general Smedley Butler. However, the desire to move the U.S. towards Fascism is still with us and some say we're seeing it now.
