In late 2018, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani was the subject of ridicule when he didn't understand the nuance of Internet domain names. When creating a tweet to attack the Mueller investigation, he unknowingly created a web address (a URL) within his message because he left out a space between sentences. Someone discovered that the web address was not being used, so he registered it and pointed it to a web page that poked fun at Donald Trump.
Giuliani later tweeted that Twitter did this because they are “card-carrying anti-Trumpers” but it was he who created the problem. This is to be expected when politicians, or anyone really, have little understanding of the basics of modern technology.
These materials cover the technologies that relate to the names and numbers used on and by the Internet.
