C112 - Internet of Things (I0T)
The term Internet of Things (IoT) describes techniques and products that allow the automation of homes, businesses, farms, buildings, and cities typically using inexpensive components. Most people are familiar with voice-controlled devices such as Google Home, Amazon Echo with Alexa, and Apple HomePod but these are untrusted by many people.
You don't have to base your IoT on entirely commercial products. You can Do It Yourself (DIY) using inexpensive computers like the Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and others. There are sensors that you can buy to monitor and control things that were not designed with IoT support.
Some of these sensors can be used without being connected to a computer. A good example is having LED lighting turn on when someone enters the room. An infrared motion sensor can turn on the lighting directly or signal the computer to do it. As a DIYer, you make these design decisions.
