S105 - Great Moments and Photos from Space Exploration
This material captures the greatest achievements of the Earth's space programs. For decades, starting in the 1950s, it was the United States and Russia taking giant leaps forward. The U.S. agency is the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Russia had no central agency, instead spreading its space program over several design bureaus, until Roscosmos was established in 1992. In 1975, the Europeans created the European Space Agency that was a partnership of 22 countries. China formed the China National Space Administration (CNSA) in 1993 and Japan started the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) in 2003.
The material broadly covers manned and unmanned space flight, space probes, and space-based telescopes such as Hubble and Chandra. The technical details are lightly-covered. The focus is on achievement and inspiration.
